AI Discovery Score

The AI Discovery Score is a 0-100 composite metric developed by Mentd. to provide a single, actionable number representing a brand's overall AI visibility. Like Moz's Domain Authority for traditional SEO or FICO scores for credit, the AI Discovery Score synthesizes multiple signals into a single benchmark that enables comparison, tracking, and goal-setting.

The score is built from four input layers: AI Visibility (citation rate, mention frequency, and sentiment across tracked AI engines), AI Access (what percentage of the site's pages are accessible to AI crawlers), AI Traffic (verified referral traffic from AI surfaces), and AI Impact (conversion and revenue attribution from AI-driven visits). Each layer is weighted and combined into the composite 0-100 score.

Score tiers: 0-20 (Minimal - brand is largely invisible in AI answers), 21-40 (Emerging - brand appears occasionally, limited platform coverage), 41-60 (Established - brand is cited regularly across multiple engines), 61-80 (Prominent - brand is frequently recommended, strong platform coverage), 81-100 (Dominant - brand is a primary AI recommendation in its category).

The AI Discovery Score is calculated two ways. A corpus estimate uses Mentd.'s aggregated AI answer data to produce an approximate score for any domain - available via the free AI Brand Checker tool. A claimed score is calculated from live prompt runs, verified server log data, and confirmed attribution tied to a Mentd. account for that specific domain - more precise and updated on a tracking cadence.
